• Pre- and Post-Gynaecological Surgery Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy can play a key role before and after gynaecological surgery — such as hysterectomy, prolapse repair, or other pelvic procedures — to support recovery, restore function, and improve long-term outcomes.

    Pre-surgery physiotherapy

A pre-surgery physiotherapy assessment helps set you up for a smoother recovery. During this appointment, we can:

    - Assess pelvic floor muscle strength and coordination

    - Provide education about what to expect before and after surgery

    - Teach exercises and strategies to optimise muscle function and support healing

    - Discuss lifestyle and activity modifications to support a safe recovery

Evidence shows that optimising pelvic floor function before surgery can reduce post-operative complications and improve recovery time.

    Post-surgery physiotherapy

We typically recommend a post-operative assessment around 6 weeks after surgery, or as advised by your surgeon. During this appointment, we can:

    - Reassess your pelvic floor and core function if appropriate

    - Provide an individualised exercise program tailored to your surgery and goals

    - Offer guidance on returning safely to exercise, work, and daily activities

    - Support recovery from any pain, stiffness, or functional limitations

Our aim is to help you regain confidence, function, and independence after surgery.

    Individualised, evidence-based care

Every surgical journey is unique. We take a person-centred, evidence-based approach, collaborating with your surgical and healthcare team to ensure your care is safe, effective, and aligned with your goals.

Whether you’re preparing for surgery or recovering afterwards, pelvic health physiotherapy can make a meaningful difference in your comfort, function, and quality of life.
