Pregnancy Physiotherapy Care
Physiotherapy during pregnancy can play an important role in supporting comfort, movement and confidence as your body changes.
At Elevate Pelvic Health, we provide comprehensive pregnancy physiotherapy care, supporting you through both musculoskeletal concerns and pelvic floor health, with a focus on evidence-based, individualised care.
Common pregnancy concerns we treat:
- Pelvic girdle pain (PGP)
- Low back pain
- Hip or groin pain
- Neck and upper back pain
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Rib or thoracic pain
- Exercise-related pain or difficulty staying active
Physiotherapy can often help to reduce pain, improve function and support safe, ongoing movement throughout pregnancy.
Pelvic floor physiotherapy during pregnancy
Pelvic floor physiotherapy is a valuable part of antenatal care and can be safely performed during pregnancy.
We offer a comprehensive pelvic floor assessment during pregnancy, typically:
- Early in the second trimester, to establish a baseline
- Around 35 weeks’ gestation, to support birth preparation and planning
These assessments help guide individualised recommendations and allow us to monitor changes over time.
Birth preparation and informed decision-making
Our physiotherapist is up to date with the latest research relating to pelvic floor risk factors during labour and birth. Based on your assessment, we can provide clear, personalised information about factors such as:
- Pelvic floor muscle function and coordination
- Muscle tone and flexibility
- Potential risk factors for pelvic floor injury
This information is used to:
- Support informed discussions with your obstetric care team
- Assist with birth preparation and decision-making
- Optimise pelvic floor outcomes during labour and birth
Our role is to inform and support, not to direct birth choices. Decisions are always made collaboratively with you and your healthcare team.
Supporting movement, strength and confidence
Pregnancy physiotherapy may also include:
- Individualised exercise guidance
- Modifications to support safe strength training and fitness
- Education around posture, lifting and daily activities
- Preparation for the physical demands of labour and early postpartum recovery
Evidence-based, supportive pregnancy care
Every pregnancy is different. Our approach is respectful, collaborative and tailored to your goals, symptoms and stage of pregnancy.
If you’re pregnant and would like support with pain, movement or pelvic floor health, pregnancy physiotherapy may be a valuable part of your care.
